EEE Detected in Orange County, FL


Sentinel Chickens in Orange County, FL indicate the presence of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) virus. This arbovirus infection is carried by mosquitos and can infect humans resulting in encephalitis that may be fatal.

A mild winter followed by both heavy rains and heat in early summer has increased the mosquito population creating a problem for all vector-borne diseases, some of which may affect poultry including avian pox, Highland-J and possibly other undiagnosed arboviruses
