Farmers to Benefit from Adoption of USMCA

Given the apparent resolution of the immigration conflict between Mexico and the U.S., ratification of the USMCA, the successor to NAFTA can now proceed. Almost a thousand agricultural groups and companies have addressed a letter to Congress urging action on ratification. According to the document which was supported by all poultry groups including the National Chicken Council, agricultural exports to Canada and Mexico attained $40 billion in 2018 and directly and indirectly supported close to a million jobs in food, agriculture and related sectors of the economy.

It is generally accepted that if implemented, USMCA will enhance exports and contribute as much as $2.2 billion to the U.S. economy each year. The letter addressed to Congress cited the International Trade Commission report that documented benefits for U.S. agriculture arising from improved market access among the three nations.
