Upper Mississippi River now Open for Traffic

Alan Barrett writing in the Farm Journal on June 29th, noted that the Upper Mississippi River is now navigable following excessively high water levels which extended from March 16th through June 19th at Lock and Dam #15.  March 22nd is normally when the Mississippi River opens for the season.  On this date in 2018 water level was at 6 foot compared to 16 foot in 2019.  The peak occurred during the first week of May with a 22 foot receding to 10 foot by the end of June.  Now that the waterway is reopened barges can move along the inland Mississippi Waterway, the first time since early December.
