Rapid Laboratory Assay for Fipronil

A recent publication* describes a spectroscopic assay for the presence of fipronil either within the egg contents or washings of shells.  The procedure was based on the differential solubility of fipronil in acetone and water.  Applying Raman spectrometry, a detection limit of 0.3 ppm in liquid egg and 0.07 mg/m2 surface area of egg shells was determined.
