Potential track of Hurricane Dorian

09/05/2019

Sanderson Farms, Butterball and Smithfield Foods are the largest processors  that may be impacted by the passage of Hurricane Dorian. According to statements by Management, the principal concern is for safety of associates and protection of flocks and herds. Preparations are based on experience gained in 2018 and in previous years.

The Kinston and Saint Pauls plants of Sanderson Farms will operate only the first shift on Thursday, closed today with the intention of re-opening, tomorrow (Saturday), weather and road conditions permitting.

Smithfield Foods will be flexible in their operations in the Carolinas and Virginia, emphasizing safety.

As in recent years the pork and poultry industries are prepared to assist with post-storm aid in affected areas. They will supply meals to responders and residents and cooperate with FEMA and volunteer agencies.
