Whole Foods Market Restores Local Products

After the acquisition of Whole Foods Market by Amazon, new management in a central location who did not understand the ethos of the company sidelined local suppliers. Concurrently, competing chains actively recruited local and regional producers and attracted and gained previously loyal customers of Whole Foods Market.

In a recent reversal, Whole Foods Market is now courting local food suppliers. The Atlanta Journal and Constitution recently highlighted the activities of “food foragers” who actively seek producers of specialty food products that are intended to distinguish Whole Food Market shelves from those of competitors. The Company is also recruiting suppliers through the Department of Agriculture and from visits to farmers markets to identify new products that conform to local taste and demand.
