According to the Ohio Farm Bureau, the severe drought in South-central Ohio has reduced soybean, corn and hay production. In Fairfield County, farms that typically harvest 65 bushels of soybeans per acre may only reap 20 bushels this year.
U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), a member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, and in a close race for reelection, characterized the regional drought as “an emergency” requiring USDA Disaster Relief Funding.
