The following items of importance to the U.S. poultry industry will be reviewed in subsequent editions of CHICKNEWS and EGG-NEWS:-

 

  • JBS Ground Beef Recall: JBS Tolleson is recalling 3,250 tons of ground beef potentially contaminated with Salmonella Newport following a traceback investigation. Implicated product was manufactured from July 26th through September 7th suggesting profound deficiencies in control, assay and recording of successive batches.
  • African Swine Fever of Concern in the E.U.: Health and Safety authorities in the E.U. have instituted controls to prevent westward extension of ASF to France from Belgium. The infection can be regarded as endemic in the nations of the former USSR.
  • SE infection from Gravel Ridge Farms Yields Additional Cases: To date 38 cases of SE have been confirmed from seven states as a result of infection of flocks on the free-range farm.
  • The USMCA, Successor to NAFTA is Well Received by U.S. Agriculture: Commodity and livestock associations have expressed satisfaction with the 11th-hour USMCA which creates export opportunities
  • Farm Bill Unlikely in 2018: Following expiry of the existing Farm Bill on September 30th Congress has yet to reconcile the House and Senate versions of the Bill. It is unlikely that legislation will be enacted in 2018 given the calendar and mid-term elections.
