Growth in Private Labels Beats National Brands


According to Nielsen data quoted by EmsembleQ Inc., during 2018, store brand sales across all outlets attained $128.6 billion, 4.4 percent higher than the $123.1 billion posted in 2017. Unit sales increased by 3.3 percent to 44.8 billion in 2018. Private label growth increased 9.8 percent in 2018 with a unit volume gain of 10.6 percent. In contrast, there was no growth in dollar volume for national brands that contracted by 1.3 percent in unit volume.
