U.S. Continues Negotiations with China

According to Reuters U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin travelled to Beijing in late April and participated in talks with their counterparts representing the government of China. In return, Vice Premier Liu He will lead a delegation to Washington to continue discussions on May 8th.

Topics yet to be resolved include protection of intellectual property, coercive practices to acquire technology from U.S. companies, purchase of agricultural commodities and enforcement of any trade agreement between the nations.

In an address to the National Press Club, the Director of the White House National Economic Council, Larry Kudlow expressed “cautious optimism” concerning a deal which would be desirable for both nations.

A spokesperson for the foreign Ministry of China noted “Trade negotiations between China and the United States have already achieved tangible progress”.
