NIH Young Scientist Research Scholars Program

The National Institute of Health has selected 50 students for the 2019-2020 Medical Research Scholars Program (MRSP).  Offered to medical, dental, and veterinary students, fellowships are conducted on basic, clinical or translational research on the NIH campus in Bethesda, MD.

Dr. Thomas R. Burklow, director of the MRSP stated, “Our program attracts the brightest talent from across the country.  These scholars are the future leaders in American medicine.”  The 2019-2020 class was selected from 130 applicants.  Of the 50 participants accepted, 48 were medical students and 2 were dental students.  It is disappointing that no veterinary students applied given the concept of “one health” which combines aspects of epidemiology, infectious diseases and pathology of livestock, free-living species, companion animals and human populations.  The MRSP would be an excellent opportunity for an aspirant veterinarian interested in either a research or academic career.
