Urner-Barry estimates the current global market for plant-based protein foods at $8 billon, to expand at an 11 percent compound annual growth rate to attain $12.5 billion in 2023. Currently the market is dominated by soy protein 
with 85 percent of content followed by wheat protein at six percent and pea protein at four percent.
It is considered significant that mung beans included in the “other legume category” collectively represents approximately one percent of 2019 plant protein used for food. Mung beans apparently form the basis of the egg substitute marketed by Just Foods Inc..
