  • LPAI H7 Presumptive Case in Hopkins County TX.: USDA-APHIS confirmed a case of avian influenza in a flock in Hopkins County, TX on March 7th. Characterization as a “presumptive LPAI” is probably based on absence of clinical signs in a flock destined for movement and detected by routine surveillance. The flock will be depleted in contrast to the Jasper County, Missouri turkey flock with LPAI which will be subject to controlled marketing. Further details will be posted when available. Export implications are self-evident but the impact will depend on the possibility of future outbreaks and whether importing nations will abide by the principle of regionalization.
  • Canada and Mexico to be Exempt from Steel and Aluminum Tariffs: To expedite retention and re-negotiation of NAFTA, President Donald J. Trump announced on March 8th that NAFTA neighbors would not be subject to proposed import tariffs on steel and aluminum.
  • Soybean Exports to China Threatened by Tariff Uncertainty: Following imposition of dumping duties on solar panels and appliances by the U.S., China retaliated by initiating an “investigation” of alleged subsidies on sorghum. Now it may be the turn of Soybeans following the announcement of proposed tariffs on steel imports. The U.S. exports one third of domestic production to China. Recently Brazil has displaced some U.S. volume on cost, quality and protein content.
  • Alltech Confirms Continuity Under Strong Leadership Team: Following the sad passing of Founder and president of Alltech, Dr T. Pearse Lyons on March 8th after a prolonged indisposition, the Company announced continuity under the leadership of Dr. Mark Lyons and a team of seasoned Company veterans, dedicated to the vision and innovation of their late Founder
